So, I really dislike meta diaries, but this seemed to be the only way to do this cleanly and without arousing suspicion.
Last night I posted a diary that needlessly caused some confusion because, as the world o' blogs and I have both grown and evolved, so have my usernames.
Back in 2004, when all I had was dial-up, outrage, and a need to find a place other than DFA, I created "Republic Not Empire." Kinda ponderous, but it pretty much summed up my feelings (and still does). Still doesn't compete with my favorite all-time username, though, which is "Dump Terry McAuliffe."
High-speed internet in the summer of 2006 gave me the chance to try out a local New England blogspot blog, which gave birth to the rather preposterous "yankee doodler" username used there and on some other places.
My work there, in turn, led to Blue Hampshire, my current home, where I simply go by my name, "Dean" (I no longer blog anonymously, and quite frankly, and can't even remember why I ever wanted to in the first place other than that it is the prevailing custom).
So, despite my (admittedly minor) reluctance to give up a user id in the 30,000's, I've decided to try to align everything. My new username at dKos is now my real name, "Dean Barker," which is how I'm known at MyDD and will soon be known at other spots. You see, I'm focused like a bird dog on defeating John Sununu, and there's going to be a lot o' bloggin' that will go on between now and then. The last thing I need is to cause needless confusion, or worse, the suspicion of sockpuppetry.
Besides the announcement, the purpose of this diary is also to ensure to others that I"m not double dipping. After this diary there will be no more posts or comments from "Republic Not Empire," and you can use this diary as a gauge to check that if need be.
It's been a good run. If I remember rightly, I've had three recommended diaries, two rescued ones, and one bumped to the front page by Kos himself.
Not bad for a republican (with a lower case "R", of course)!
Thanks to all of you who may have read what I've written, and see you on the flip side with username "Dean Barker". But you'll have to wait to hear from me to comment for 24 hours or post a diary for a week. How quaint!
